Here I will report on several novel imaging experiments which exploit the coherence of modern x-ray sources to image dynamics at the nano- and meso-scale.  The first experiment utilizes the short pulses from the LCLS to perform three-dimensional imaging of the generation and subsequent evolution of coherent acoustic phonons on the picosecond time scale within a single gold nanocrystal.  In the second experiment the results from imaging defects associated with crystal growth will be shown, including the 3D imaging of the growth and propagation of a dislocation network in an individual meso-crystal.  Finally, I will show how in the absence of any temporal resolution it is possible to perform ab initio time-resolved imaging to investigate nano-scale dynamics.
