Exploitation of the potential of Free Electron Lasers through innovative experiment
Speaker: Danny Fainozzi, Elettra
Program Description:
The advent of EUV and X-Ray FELs, which combine the exceptional characteristics of lasers (ultra-short, brilliant, coherent, and transform-limited pulses, polarisation control) and synchrotrons (short and selectable wavelengths), has opened a new era for exploring the fundamental properties of matter. Here we present the results of two experiments taking advantage of these unique features. We show the very first successful X-Ray Transient Grating experiment performed at SwissFEL, and a new approach combining Impulsive Stimulated Raman Scattering and K-edge absorption, leading to an element- and enantiomeric-selective visualization of vibrations of the Ibuprofen molecule, performed at the FERMI FEL.
