Program Description

Cancer is a group of common diseases characterized by the uncontrolled growth and invasion of normal tissues. Over 1.5 million new cancer patients are diagnosed and 0.5 million people die of cancer each year in the United States.

The chemotherapy drug cisplatin represents a major landmark in the history of successful anti-cancer drugs. However, acquired or intrinsic drug resistance to cisplatin limits its implication in chemotherapy. Novel anti-cancer drugs are needed to overcome the drug resistance. In this talk, Dong Wang will present recent research progress toward understanding the structural basis of action of a novel anti-cancer compound and knowledge that could inform future drug design.
