When X-rays go Quantum: From Cavity QED to Quantum Imaging

Program Description:
The remarkable development of accelerator-driven light sources has brought quantum and nonlinear phenomena at X-ray energies within reach. X-ray photonic structures such as cavities and superlattices are being used as a new platform to realize quantum optical concepts at X-ray energies. In this field, Mössbauer isotopes are the most suitable atomic emitters. Their extremely small resonance bandwidth allows to study fundamental phenomena of light-matter interaction. Finally, the use of higher-order coherences in Glauber's sense could even lead to new concepts for incoherent imaging at X-ray energies, as a continuation of the pioneering experiments of Hanbury Brown and Twiss.
