Matthias Kling becomes the next Director of the Stanford PULSE Institute
David Studdert, Vice Provost and Dean of Research, and John Sarrao, Director of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, announced that Matthias Kling, Professor of Photon Science, and by courtesy, of Applied Physics, will become the next Faculty Director of the Stanford PULSE Institute. His term will begin on February 1, 2026.
Matthias joined Stanford and SLAC in 2021 after holding positions at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Munich, Germany. He has most recently served as the Director of the Science Research and Development Division at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). Matthias' research interests include ultrafast x-ray science, petahertz electronics, nanophotonics, and laser physics.
