Postdoctoral Scholar Position – Stanford PULSE Institute

Ultrafast Science with HHG Sources and the LCLS

The PULSE Institute at Stanford and SLAC invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position to conduct research in the areas of ultrafast chemical sciences including time- and momentum-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The research is aimed to study ultrafast electron dynamics at surfaces, interfaces and in quantum materials broadly defined, including 2D crystals and their heterostructures. The project utilizes state-of-the-art high-rep-rate laser systems, associated high-harmonic sources, the soft x-ray beam line of the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), and a newly commissioned ultrafast momentum microscope.

Research Opportunities

The postdoctoral scholar will have opportunities to:

  • Lead experiments that are at the forefront of attosecond science.
  • Participate in the commissioning of the ultrafast momentum microscope.
  • Study and optimize the solid-state high-harmonic generation (HHG) process.
  • Collaborate with researchers and students at the PULSE Institute, SUNCAT, and the LCLS, and with the broader ultrafast science community at Stanford and elsewhere.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in physics, physical sciences, materials science, chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, conduct, and optimize ultrafast experimental methods such as pump-probe spectroscopy.
  • Strong experimental research experience in photoemission spectroscopy at surfaces is a plus.
  • A team player who is collaborative and adaptive to diverse research environments.

Appointment

This is a one-year postdoctoral appointment, with the expectation of renewal subject to satisfactory performance of the candidate and the availability of funding.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit a CV, a brief description of their research experience and interests, and contacts for three references to Dr. Shambhu Ghimire at shambhu@slac.stanford.edu.

Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory are committed to fostering an inclusive research environment and encourage applications from qualified candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
