PULSE Industrial Affiliates Program

Main content start

Any company can apply to join the PULSE Industrial Affiliates Program at Stanford University.

The PULSE Affiliates program creates a dynamic ecosystem connecting our world-leading research in Photon Science at the Stanford PULSE Institute with industry leaders. Our mission is to foster deep engagements that accelerate the transfer of fundamental knowledge into societal and commercial impact. We offer a tiered membership structure to provide a clear pathway for engagement, from accessing top talent to shaping the future of scientific discovery.

Membership Tiers & Benefits

Tier 1: Elite Member
Annual Fee: $15,000

This tier is designed for companies seeking to connect with our community, monitor cutting-edge research, and recruit top student talent from Stanford.

  • Recruiting & Networking: Gain access to our pool of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars through exclusive recruiting events, workshops, and symposia.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Receive annual research reports and publications.
  • Visibility: Your company’s logo will be featured on the PULSE Affiliates website and at program events.

Tier 2: Priority Member
Annual Fee: $75,000

This tier is ideal for companies with active R&D interests who wish to engage more deeply with our faculty and provide input into the direction of pre-competitive research.

  • All benefits of the Elite tier, plus:
  • Workshops and meetings: Participate in all workshops and events co-organized by the PULSE Institute. This benefit includes an option for a booth and participation for up to 2 people. The company’s logo will also be featured on banners at the workshops and events.
  • Deeper Faculty Engagement: Interact closely with PULSE faculty, staff, and students in our "Research-in-Progress" program to discuss ongoing projects and future opportunities.
  • Industrial Visiting Scholar Program: Promote in-depth interaction by sending an industrial researcher for a short-term residency at Stanford, in accordance with the university’s Visiting Scholar policies.

Tier 3: Strategic Member
Annual Fee: $150,000+

This premier tier is for industry leaders who view Photon Science as core to their long-term strategy and wish to provide industry insight to the future of the PULSE Institute.

  • All benefits of the Priority tier, plus:
  • Provide seed funding allowing PULSE students and postdocs to explore new directions. The number of seed projects and duration depends on overall funds in this tier, and the funding distribution will be determined by the PULSE Director.
  • Strategic Leadership: A seat on the PULSE Industrial Advisory Board (IAB), providing high-level perspective to help establish the institute’s research priorities and strategic direction.
  • Exclusive Access: An annual, private strategic meeting with PULSE faculty leadership to discuss long-term vision and explore bespoke research opportunities (these research engagements would take place outside of the affiliates program and would require a separate sponsored research agreement).
  • Highest Visibility: Premier branding and recognition as a key strategic member shaping the future of discovery at PULSE and Stanford.

Note that any directly sponsored research would take place outside of the industrial affiliates program. Although PULSE is a joint Center of Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, the Industrial Affiliates Program is administered solely by Stanford University, and participation in it confers no benefits with respect to SLAC nor imply any endorsement by SLAC or the Department of Energy.
